York1 has proposed a new ERO to remove the requirements for an EA
ERO # 025-0389 "Removing Environmental Assessment Requirements for the York1 Waste Disposal Site Project" was posted on April 17, 2025. Dresden C.A.R.E.D. is counting on the community to help us continue this fight! Be sure to leave your comments on this ERO, it closes MAY 17, 2025.
We also have created additional petitions to send to The Minister of Environment and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, as well as Queens Park. The petitions state we believe this is not the location to be placing a landfill. Please print, read, and sign these petitions and return to a member of our volunteer team/reach out via email at dresdencared@gmail.com for any further questions.

Sydenham Field Naturalists Board:
The Sydenham Field Naturalists Posted the Following Statement to Social Media on March 11, 2024:
On Wednesday night, March 6, 2024, at our Annual General Meeting, the newly elected Board of Directors for the Sydenham Field Naturalists renewed our commitment to serve as the voice of nature and advocate on its behalf. We express significant concern regarding the proposal from York1 and their affiliates to modify a small, defunct dump in Dresden.
In response, we have developed strategic plans to contest this proposal, emphasizing the potential detrimental impact on the Sydenham Watershed, soil pollution, and the adverse effects on our native biodiversity. Our ongoing efforts include communicating these concerns to local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as reaching out to partners within our Nature Network.
The Sydenham River possesses significant importance as a watershed, not solely for the local Dresden area but also for the Chenail Ecarte, known as the Snye locally, and Lake St. Clair, subsequently flowing into the Great Lakes. It serves as a vital waterflow sustaining numerous communities and diverse species, including a substantial number that are endangered, threatened, or of special concern. Among its inhabitants are 34 species of mussels, acting as filter feeders and keeping these waters healthy, and 80 species of fish that depend on the waters of the Sydenham for feeding and reproduction.
Rest assured, we have closely observed and considered all the facts, and are taking appropriate actions to be the voice for the Sydenham River and by extension our native biodiversity. THE MINISTRy OF ENVIRONMENT, Conservation and parks:
A Comprehensive Environmental Assessment is Now Required!
The MECP has listened to the public's concerns about York1's proposed project, recognizing the dangers a landfill operation of this size poses to residents and the surrounding environment. The MECP is requiring a comprehensive environmental assessment be completed before this project can be implemented. This means that York1 and the third party performing the EA must identify potential impacts from this project, mitigation measures, and provide an opportunity for the local community to submit comments.
Our Work is Not Done
Although this is great news, our battle is not over! The community came together leaving 1180 comment submissions to the MECP about this cause, we must continue to be heard. Our town is small but mighty, this is the only ERO proposal with its own dedicated email address, please continue voicing your concerns!
