Friday April 26th:
The Ontario Liberal team reached out to Dresden C.A.R.E.D. wanting to learn more about what we’re fighting so hard to protect. A time was arranged to meet.
Ontario Liberal Party leader Bonnie Crombie, and Ontario Liberal Party Candidate Cathy Burghardt-Jessons, running in the Lambton-Kent Middlesex by-election, engaged with Dresden C.A.R.E.D. and community members to deepen their understanding of the site and the crucial conservation efforts underway.
The day commenced with a site visit to the proposed development area, providing an invaluable opportunity to deepen the understanding of the project's implications.
Then a historical immersion led by local Dresden historian Marie Carter, tracing the area's 1st Nations & Underground Railroad heritage at the Rotary Historical Plaques. Participants then embarked on a scenic walk along the Trillium Trail, observing firsthand the environmental challenges, including river erosion. Amidst this backdrop, they planted a native tree, symbolizing the commitment to safeguarding our natural resources.
Positioned strategically in front of the Ministry of Environment's species at risk sign and the local high school - 𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, the tree serves as a poignant reminder of the stakes involved in preserving our ecosystem. This collaborative endeavor underscores the intersection of history, conservation, and advocacy in our ongoing efforts to protect the Sydenham River and its surrounding landscape.
The delegation, accompanied by Dresden C.A.R.E.D. representatives and community members proceeded to the Crossroads Cook Shack food trailer, which had set up shop for the day in solidarity with Dresden C.A.R.E.D.'s cause.
